Like how the story goes, poor Alice chases a rabbit down a hole.
However, Alice Lovely was always a poor woman. Being born into a family that preferred male heirs instead of female, she was instead treated like a maid and servant to the family, her own brethren.
After all the emotional and verbal abuse she went through, at 21, she finally ran away from home and the town she lived in. She ran through a nearby forest, but as she was running, she heard hoofs. They sent scouts!
She had no choice. She hid in a rabbit hole that seemed too big to be for an ordinary rabbit. But she thought it would stop as she fell.
It never did.
